Top End families know late January is a difficult time to keep kids entertained.
Parents and carers are often juggling lots of responsibilities, with school holidays dragging into its final weeks, the monsoon rains having no relief and work just around the corner.
There are many balls in the air, but fortunately local juggler Michael Connell has the perfect solution.
“Instead of kids staying home doing silly things, families can come watch me do them,“ Mr Connell said.
“It’s called The Red Cordial Variety Hour, and it’s a collection of the most ridiculous juggling and circus tricks I can pull off.”
Mr Connell has been juggling for more than 10 years, everywhere from performing on cruise ships to appearing on Australia’s Got Talent.
He said he was inspired to perform a special show for children by his daughter.
“I have a kid myself — my daughter just turned 5 — this is her first school holidays,” he said.
“It inspired me to think about my own school holidays, and all the crazy stuff I got up to.”
Mr Connell wants to entertain children and parents alike with his silly and outrageous antics.
“It will be a ridiculously silly show - it may get a little wild and crazy,” he said.
“I’ll be speed solving a Rubik’s cube while spinning plates, bouncing a slinky off a volunteer’s head, juggling extremely breakable plates - and much more.”
The Red Cordial Variety Hour is on at 1pm, January 24 and 25 at The Last Supper Pizzarella, 35 Cavenagh Street, Darwin.
Tickets are $25 at the door or can be booked through TryBooking:

“As a parent myself I know kids need some entertainment during school holidays (and parents need a break).”
