LIONEL Richie reveals he waited 40 years waiting for the call up from the queen of showbiz.

Barbra Streisand finally got in touch to ask him to sing the classic The Way We Were with her for the Partners record, her second collection of duets.

Richie joins an illustrious roll call of A-list partners on her 34th studio record including Michael Bublé, Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, John Legend, Andrea Bocelli and even Elvis Presley.

‘On my bucket list in my career, of all the things I have not done ... a duet with Barbra Streisand was the top of the list,” Richie said.

“I mean, it’s mutual admiration society — I have been waiting for this call in Hollywood California for the last 40 years.’

The album also teams Streisand with her son Jason Gould, who only decided to embrace his singing DNA in recent years to release two EPs and perform with her during her 2012 and 2013 tours.

“He started to sing and this sound just flowed from him ... no real fear that I could sense ... it was my favourite moment in the show ... to have my son come out and share that stage with me ... that was a highlight,” she said.

They sing the Irving Berlin classic How Deep Is The Ocean.

“When he played me some of the things he recorded, it was jaw dropping,” Streisand said.

“For a mother and son, the lyric was so right for what I felt towards him.”

Gould said he had avoided pursuing a music career because of his mother’s iconic status.

“I started exploring singing and music late in life — it’s not something I ever thought I would do because ... my mother is such an icon. I also had a need to express myself and explore my musicality”

“Singing a song like this with your mother is personal.”

Joel admitted it was intimidating to walk into a studio and sing with a woman whose voice has been her calling card for more than 50 years.
