Liam Payne’s girlfriend Kate Cassidy has revealed the One Direction star was about to propose, breaking her silence following his death by posting a tender handwritten note from the singer.
Payne, 31, died last week after falling from the balcony of a hotel in Argentina.
The social media influencer had been in a relationship with Payne for two years.
She revealed how the couple had been discussing their future together in the weeks leading up to his death.
“A few weeks ago, we sat outside on a beautiful evening manifesting our lives together,” Ms Cassidy wrote, sharing a series of intimate photos of the couple to Instagram on Wednesday.
“I keep your note close, even though you told me not to look at it.
“It said, ‘Me and Kate to marry within a year/engaged & together forever 444’.”
Ms Cassidy revealed the number 444 carried special significance to the couple as it is the “favourite number sequence of the angels”.
“Liam, I know we’ll be together forever, but not in the way we had planned,” Ms Cassidy wrote.
“You’ll always be with me. I’ve gained a guardian angel. I will love you for the rest of my life and beyond, carrying our dreams and memories with me everywhere I go.”
Ms Cassidy said the last week had been incredibly hard.
“I’m struggling to figure out how to live in a world without you by my side. Together, we got to be kids again, always finding joy in the smallest things,” she wrote.
“Liam, you had the kindest soul and the most fun-loving spirit. It feels like I’ve lost the best part of myself. I can’t imagine a day without your laughter and love. You brought so much light into my life.”
New Jersey-born Cassidy left Argentina just days before Payne died, with the New York Post citing a friend as saying she confided in her on whether to leave the country.
Now Cassidy is left wondering whether she could have prevented Payne’s death, the friend said, as per The Post.
“She can’t leave, or else who knows what will happen? And if she leaves, what will he do?
But she has other responsibilities, other things that she’s supposed to be doing. So she finally had to make a decision,” the friend said, according to The Post.
“They’re in Argentina and it’s like a hostage situation.”
She added: “So she tells him she wants to leave, this is after a week. He begs her to stay. She keeps extending her trip, a day, two days. And he just wants her to stay, stay, stay.”
“I get what people are saying, that she should just stay with her rich, famous boyfriend,” the friend continued, “but she wanted to be home in her own bed with her dog. She wanted to come home. So eventually she says she’s going home.”
The development comes after Payne’s father was told it could be 10 days before he is able to take his son back home due to the ongoing police investigation.
ZAYN MALIK ANNOUNCES RESCHEDULED TOUR DATES
Zayn Malik has revealed when his rescheduled US shows will take place after cancelling the gigs in the wake of his former One Direction bandmate's death.
Malik’s Stairway to the Sky Tour, the first solo tour of his career, was scheduled to begin this week, but the shows were pushed to the new year following Payne’s shock death.
The singer will now be performing seven shows in North America, starting in Washington DC on January 21 and finishing off in San Francisco on February 3.
In the aftermath of Payne’s death, Malik, 31, earlier confirmed that the shows would be postponed.
“Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the US leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour,” he wrote on Instagram.
“The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days.”
He added, “Your tickets remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for understanding.”
