Larrakia woman Megan Waters is about to put Territory Footy on the map in a big way, thanks to her new position as co-host of the Yokayi Footy show

Larrakia woman Megan Waters is about to put Territory Footy on the map in a big way, thanks to her new position as co-host of the Yokayi Footy show.

Hosting alongside former AFL player and established media personality Tony Armstrong, Ms Waters said she was looking forward to showcasing the Indigenous influence on Aussie rules.

“I think it’s really good to highlight Yokayi footy is all about showcasing our culture through a youthful lens,” she said.

“It’s going to be pretty lighthearted, we’ll talk a lot about footy but there will also be a lot about education and sharing stories so I’m really excited about that.”

Growing up in Darwin and around the Nightcliff Football Club, Ms Waters said the sport was a big part of her life.

“Yokayi footy is celebrating Indigenous culture, that’s something that’s really exciting for me being able to come into this role, using my platform to educate on Indigenous culture but also inspiring young indigenous women and boys that footy’s such a great vehicle for positive outcomes in life,” she said.

Yokayi Footy returns to AFL streaming services, NITV and SBS on Wednesday March 17 at 8pm
