MOVIE buffs can finally start booking their seats at one of Australia’s most unique cinemas, with the Deckchair releasing tickets yesterday and confirming its June 5 opening.
Darwin’s Deckchair Cinema general manager James Parker said it was great to get the green light from the government and officially start counting down to its resumption, albeit with a reduced capacity.

“It should be a very similar set-up, the rows were 1.5m apart anyway so not a huge amount of changes needed,” he said.
“We have to limit the number of people in the cinema, we’re looking around 50 per cent of our capacity … but I recommend people book online.”
As with many other businesses, a smaller customer base will probably hurt but the not-for-profit is simply happy to be able to operate again, showcasing alternative films.
“Financially it will make things difficult … but thankfully we’ve had fantastic support from the government,” he said.

The Deck Chair Cinema will open on June 5 with the opening-night film Pain and Glory restricted to members only.
