British comedian Miriam Margolyes has suggested that Australia has gone down hill in recent years.

Margolyes, who has spent plenty of time Down Under over the years and is a beloved figure on this side of the world, opened up about her true feelings about the country during an appearance on The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

When quizzed by Henderson about how polite modern Australians are, Margolyes confessed that when it comes to manners, they don’t rank highly on the list of countries she’s visited over the years.

“Oh, f**k darling, terrible,” she insisted.

“I love Australia, I think it’s a fabulous country,” she continued. “But I think it’s going a bit wonky at the moment, like the rest of the world. But no, I do care about it. And I am an Australian citizen.

“I became a citizen because my partner is Australian, and I wanted to be ever closer to Australia.”

The Harry Potter star, who is busy promoting her latest ABC series about New Zealand, went on to share that she’s grown to prefer it to Australia, despite being a citizen here.

“But now I think my allegiance has slipped slightly and gone to New Zealand.”

When Trump was brought up, Margolyes refused to discuss him, which sparked some tension with Sandilands.

“Oh, don’t tell me you’re one of these fools that don’t understand he’s going to bring greatness,” ranted Sandilands. “You’re not. Oh, you’ve been you’ve been twisted by the Whoopi Goldberg’s of the world. What a shame.”

In an attempt to skip over any tension, Margolyes replied: “I wouldn’t mind being twisted by Whoopi Goldberg!”

Margolyes has been in a relationship with Australian historian Heather Sutherland for more than 50 years, has travelled extensively across the country.

Back in 2020, she famously journeyed more than 10,000km over two months for the ABC documentary series Almost Australian.

She sparked controversy when she labelled parts of the country “greedy” and “brutal”.

The Kyle & Jackie O Show can be heard from 6am to 10am on KIIS 1065 in Sydney and KIIS 101.1 in Melbourne, or listen on the free iHeart App.
