Simone Holtznagel and Jono Castano’s break-up – just weeks after their daughter’s birth – sent the rumour mill into overdrive earlier this year.

There’s been plenty of speculation about what went wrong in Sydney celebrity couple Simone Holtznagel and Jono Castano’s relationship since their abrupt split just nine weeks after the birth of their first child.

However, according to The Daily Telegraph, the “writing was on the wall” for some time for the model and well-known fitness trainer, who broke up in May shortly after welcoming daughter Gia.

The publication reports that “multiple friends and family members tried to warn” Holtznagel, 31, that their different lifestyles may not be compatible.

Rumours began to swirl that something was amiss when Castano, 33, posted a series of pictures of himself on a seemingly solo luxury Thailand trip, just days after Gia was born.

As one follower asked bluntly in the comments section: “Don’t you have a newborn baby? Where’s your girlfriend?”

It was revealed shortly after that the couple had gone their separate ways, with Castano telling the Daily Mail: “We just decided it was best for her to spend time with her family in Wollongong. Who knows what the future holds, our idea is just to be the best parents for Gia at this stage.”

While Holtznagel is yet to publicly comment on the split, she posted a cryptic quote on Instagram last month seemingly confirming the sad news.

“You shouldn’t feel guilty for moving forward,” the quote read.

“Everyone has limits, and it’s important to look out for your own wellbeing. It’s okay to choose what’s best for you and move on.

“Prioritising your own happiness and peace is essential, especially when you’ve been patient and understanding for a long time.”

Holtznagel and their daughter are reportedly now staying with her family in Wollongong, while Castano is still in Sydney, where he co-owns a gym with his ex-wife, Amy.

Holtznagel and Castano first met in 2021 after Castano’s marriage ended, and the relationship became public after the pair were spotted kissing at Merivale establishment Mimi’s.

The pair laid bare their post-baby life in a revealing interview with Stellar magazine, which hit shelves on April 28.

When asked about the topic of marriage, Holtznagel, 30, joked that Castano had to get divorced first but they were basically married with baby Gia in their lives.
