JIMMY Barnes will be delivering his first performance after the coronavirus lockdown in Darwin later this month at the Top End Breakout show.
Taking the stage on September 26 at the Darwin Ski Club, event organiser Russell Temple said having Barnes perform would only increase the appeal of what’s shaping up to be a super September of Australian music in Darwin.

“He’s close to Australia’s biggest artist, probably Australia’s most popular and for him to decide to come up here for his first show out of lockdown is exciting for everyone up here I would have thought,” he said.
“I think to have the Angels and Jimmy Barnes on two Saturdays one week apart in September before it gets too hot, there’s a fair bit of Australian music there … there’s a couple pretty good line ups.”
Mr Temple said Barnes was a crowd favourite in Darwin and was confident of another sellout show.
“It is Barnes-land – where in Australia isn’t it? Whether it be Cold Chisel or Jimmy Barnes or even his family of singers, the popularity continues to grow,” Mr Temple said.
“Generations of people have lived their partying years with Barnes music going off somewhere.”
The rock icon, who has sold more records in Australia than any other local rock artist, is best known for his iconic stellar live performances, the last of which in Darwin was at the Darwin Supercars Triple Crown in July last year.
But his presence on stage provides an opportunity for a number of Territory artists to shine on a bigger stage, including Stevie Jean, the Settle Down Sisters and Caiti Baker.

“If anyone saw their Darwin Festival show they would know why they deserve to be on a national stage,” Mr Temple said. “The work they’ve done themselves and the work people who look after them have done, individually they've all got a talent and together they’re unique and exciting.”
Barnes is currently in country NSW, where no COVID hotspot has been declared.
The Top End Breakout Tour takes place from 4pm at the Darwin Ski Club on Saturday September 26.
