Tiny Mildura school with three classrooms tops region in NAPLAN results
A tiny Mildura school with 50 students and three classrooms has achieved the region's highest primary NAPLAN scores through "traditional" teaching methods. See how every Mildura’s school ranked.
A tiny Mildura primary school — with only three classrooms — has credited a “traditional” approach to learning with “no interruptions” for their 2025 NAPLAN success.
Koorlong Primary School had the highest average NAPLAN score for a primary school in the Mildura region.
The school’s 545.2 average mark beat out the second highest ranking school, St Mary’s School in Swan Hill, by more than 30 points.
Year 1 teacher and learning specialist Rachelle Pain said the school had a “targeted” approach to learning for each of its 50 students.
“We know every child inside and out and the whole school follows a consistent learning schedule,” she said.
“We are a real structured school with no interruptions for the kids.
“As teachers, we are always looking at our students to see where they need extra support or where we can extend their learning.”
Red Cliffs East Primary School, Irymple South Primary School and Sacred Heart School rounded out the top five.
Mildura’s year five students excelled in reading and grammar, however numeracy was the worst subject.
Trinity Lutheran College outscored every other secondary school in the region with an average test NAPLAN score of 600.
The independent school, which only runs to Year 10, clinched the region’s top scores across all five subjects.
Irymple Secondary College and Henderson College also performed well, with average marks of 574.4 and 564 respectively.
Robinvale College, Tyrrell College and Mildura Primary School ranked at the bottom of the list for the region.
To determine how each school performed in 2025, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Yr 5 or Yr 9) were combined and the average found. Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.
The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
