AFTER a school year rocked by the coronavirus pandemic, the Northern Territory’s resilient Year 12 students have their sights set firmly on the future with the start of the NT Certificate of Education and Training (NTCET) exams today.
The exams, which will provide each student with an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for gaining entrance into university, will run until November 16.
Essington Senior College vice-captain and Year 12 student Liam Carpenter, 17, said he was feeling well-prepared after some early concerns.
“A couple of months ago, when we were doing our trials, we weren’t sure if those would determine our actual ATARs, if our final exams got cancelled … so that stressed us all out quite a lot,” he said.
“But we’ve had a lot of practice preparing for our final exams.
“We’ve done six maths trial exams, so I’m not stressed at all for that one.”

School captain and fellow Year 12 student Sebastian Lodge, 18, said he would go in feeling confident.
“Obviously there’s worry, but I reckon I’m on top of it and can handle it,” he said.
“I did well enough in the trial exam, and I’m happy with that.
”As long as I can replicate that, I should be good.”
