Department of Education chief executive Vicki Baylis has announced she will retire in 2020.
Ms Baylis was appointed to the role in 2016, having worked in various executive roles in the Department since 2012.
In an email to the department staff this morning she wrote: “As some of you may be aware, I will be taking leave prior to retiring next year.
“My last official working day as Chief Executive of the Northern Territory Department of Education will be Friday 14 February 2020, and I look forward to celebrating the achievements of our Year 12 students at the Northern Territory Board of Studies Awards that afternoon.
“The position of Chief Executive of the Northern Territory Department of Education will be advertised nationally commencing this Saturday, 7 December 2019.
“The outcome of the recruitment process is likely to be advised prior to my end date.

Prior to coming to the Territory, Ms Baylis was a teacher and principal in north Queensland, and held executive roles in Queensland Government’s Department of Education.
