Kids need to 'get out and run' and stopping community sport 'prevents that happening'

PROMINENT Darwin school Haileybury Rendall has made the decision to increase student fees by up to 15 percent for 2022.

In a letter to parents and guardians from the school board chairman Tom Poulton, recipients were told that the cost increases were needed to ensure necessary facilities and teaching talent.

Junior school fees will see the largest increase of 15 percent, middle and senior school levels will increase by 10 percent and early learning centre (ELC) fees will increase by five percent.

Years 10, 11 and 12 students (senior school) can expect annual fees of $11,615 to be paid in installments of $2,903.75.

Transition and Years One and Two students will pay the least in the main school with annual fees expected to be $7990 with installments of $1997.50.

Prices continue to rise with each year level with Years Three and Four expected to cost $9690, Year Five to cost $9785, Year Six to cost $10,140, Year Seven to cost $10,550 and Years Eight and Nine to cost $11,300.

The daily rate in reception and pre-school will be $129.

“The rise is essential to ensure that we continue to provide the necessary facilities and teaching talent to deliver an outstanding education which is comparable to the best available anywhere in Australia,” Mr Poulton said in the letter.

“Notwithstanding these increases, our aggregate fees will be less than those of our major competitor in Darwin at all year levels.

“The school will always strive to ensure that its fees are fully competitive in the local market.

“There is no intention that they should ever increase to anywhere near the levels of elite schools elsewhere in Australia.

“Our fees will be all-inclusive of many of the changes that are often an additional impost at other schools.”
