BUCKLE up, batten down, hold on tight – the NT News’ 120 Most Powerful list is back.

And this year, it’s got more attitude than ever.

And you’ll only find it right here, exclusively, on the NT News website, ntnews.com.au

Some noses have already been put firmly out of joint but The List continues to shock and awe.

Positions 80 to 61 are revealed today and there might be a couple of surprises.

Today’s countdown of Territory powerbrokers includes a couple with sporting backgrounds but, there’s no doubt, each one of today’s 20 list makers has huge influence over our social and economic livelihoods.

Several of them make their “Most Powerful” debuts while, as The List counts down, other prominent Territorians are starting to fear they may not have made the cut this year.

There was a lot of talk about our selections on Thursday.

And there is sure to be a lot more about our choices today.

Last year, names such as NT Police Association head Paul McCue and manufacturing heavyweight Owen Pike held positions between 80-61 on The List.

The Most Powerful list caused a sensation when it was first published about a decade back.

Within days, it became known simply as The List.

The rich and famous pretended they didn’t want to be on it, while their secretaries telephoned to plead for them to be included.

Some people who knew they would be on The List lobbied to be higher up.

For some, not being on The List was the ultimate humiliation – they moved south.

Of course, this is the NT, where the only men who wear ties are politicians and the accused. Not for us one of those forelock-tugging, respectful most powerful lists that you get in newspapers down south.
