STAGE One work on the $200m luxury Westin Hotel has stepped up a gear with hoardings in place around the site, the widening of Anchorage Court nearing completion, and junction works with Kitchener Drive continuing.

Stage One works also include the construction of a sea wall which will provide protection to the development from storm surge and includes the fully accessible foreshore public pathway along the complete length of the site, as well as diversion and relocation of site services and drainage.

MARRIOTT International unveils Darwin plans

PLANS released for $200m luxury hotel

Senior Director of Hotel Development, Marriott International, Richard Crawford said the Westin site hoarding was a signal of Marriott’s commitment to introduce the first-class global brand to the city of Darwin.

“We are looking forward to the hotel doors opening and are certain that the property will set a new benchmark in hospitality excellence, benefiting locals and attracting new visitors to the Top End from far and wide,” he said.

Senior Project Manager from construction contractor McMahon Services Australia NT, Gary Solly said the site hoarding is a significant milestone, and with construction now underway the people of Darwin can expect to see fast progress on these infrastructure works.

“These works help prepare the site for the future hotel development which, in addition to the 200 plus rooms, includes world class conferencing facilities, rooftop pool and bar and a skywalk bridge link,” he said.

“The skywalk will complete the connectivity between the wider waterfront precinct and the CBD.

“To ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians and workers during construction, road closures are now in place between the Jervois Road/Kitchener Drive junction and the existing Fort Hill Wharf entrance on Kitchener Drive.

“These arrangements will remain until the new loop road is completed.

“Access along the foreshore will be closed to motorists and pedestrians during this time.

“The Cruise Ship Terminal can be accessed via Anchorage Court, and the parking area located in front of the Cruise Ship Terminal entrance has been removed to allow cars and buses to turn.

“Vehicle and pedestrian access to the Deckchair Cinema and esplanade will remain unchanged.”

Mr Solly said an industry briefing will be held early July to provide information for contractors interested in constructing the hotel’s off-site prototype guest room.

“A prototype room is an important step in the project’s development, and is being built to test the design and set the quality benchmark expected of a Westin Hotel for the guest rooms across the whole project,” he said.

Landbridge Group is expecting to call for expressions of interest to construct the hotel later this year. The hotel is scheduled to open in 2022.

The Westin will help position Darwin as a leading business and tourist destination in Northern Australia.
