Bring on new luxury hotel

THE wheels have been slow in turning but just maybe the light on the horizon is getting brighter for the construction of Landbridge’s proposed $200 million luxury hotel in Darwin

THE wheels have been slow in turning but just maybe the light on the horizon is getting brighter for the construction of Landbridge’s proposed $200 million luxury hotel in Darwin.

It’s an exciting proposal and the sooner it gets the go-ahead the better.

Now that plans have been lodged with the Development Consent Authority, the long-awaited project green light may not be too far off.

Unlike the Parliament House underground carpark project, which will largely benefit mainly politicians, their spin doctors and public servants, the hotel construction project will have real and lasting benefits.

While both projects create much-needed construction industry jobs, the construction of Landbridge’s luxury hotel on the Darwin Waterfront is far more important.

Quite apart from enhancing the popular precinct, it will create hundreds of ongoing local hospitality industry jobs, boost tourism and become a destination in its own right.

It will deliver unsatisfied demand for luxury accommodation in Darwin through a vibrant, integrated development of world-class standard.

The hotel will operated by Marriott International under the Westin brand. This in itself was a major coup as it links Darwin to a worldwide network.

We are supporters of the luxury hotel development.

It will boost the economy at a time when we need it most. It will be a drawcard for high-end business and leisure visitors and give Darwin a significant edge in the lucrative business conference market. Bring it on.
