But a revamped sushi train is about to fill the void it left, in a new location.

The new Japanese restaurant will be called Go Sushi X and is based off the same concept as the original shop but with a few minor changes.

Steven Marcelis, who is Ms Manolas’ son, has decided to restart the popular restaurant with his wife.

The restaurant is set to open in the old Woolies building where Tandoori Vibes used to operate from around mid-June.

Mr Marcelis said the sushi train would be sightly smaller to accommodate the size of the new location.

Regular diners at the original restaurant will be glad to hear many of their favourite dishes will return.

Go Sushi X will have a similar menu to the old Go Sushi Grand Central.

The Manolas family has a long history in Japanese cuisine with Toshi and Theo Manolas operating Go Sushi Grand Central for 19 years, before it shut in March.

The couple decided to pack up the business after two straight years of seeing their tills lighten, stating it was “too hard in the current economy”.

News of the business’ closure sparked a sushi stampede in March as diners booked out the restaurant in its final days.

At the time, Ms Manolas told the NT News the decision to close was a difficult one.

“Every time I come into the restaurant at a quarter past seven in the morning, when no one is here,” she said.

“I just come in and cry.”

Mr and Ms Manolas are the parents of jailed former sushi bar owner George Manolas who was found guilty of 20 counts of stealing from the Casuarina sushi bar he managed and part-owned.

He owned Bar Zushi with another man and was found guilty of fleecing a total of $171,000 from the business.

Justice Peter Barr said during sentencing in 2017, Manolas stole the money to pay down debts the now-defunct Dymocks Bookshop franchise he co-owned with his wife racked up with its suppliers.
