ROADHOUSES, wayside inns and remote caravan parks are all eligible to apply for a new round of funding to upgrade their facilities and improve visitor experiences.

The second round of the NT government’s Territory small business Roadhouse to Recovery grants will open on Saturday, providing funding of up to $150,000 to small businesses.

As part of the initiative, business owners are required to make a cash contribution.

The NT government will invest $3 for every dollar invested by successful grant recipient businesses, in a scheme expected to total $4 million.

The aim of the scheme, is to boost the Territory’s drive tourism market, and improve on-the-ground customer experiences for people travelling through the Territory.

Previous successful applicants are eligible to apply in the second round, however priority will be given to new applicants.

Applications for the Roadhouse to Recovery Grant grants close on August 30 at 5pm, and successful applicants will be notified in October.

A total of 35 regional and remote wayside inn, caravan parks and roadhouse operators across the Territory have previously received grants, with 21 projects in the Top End and a further 14 in Central Australia.

NT Chief Minister Michael Gunner said the government was “pumped” to re-open the grant.

“(It) will benefit even more roadhouses and wayside inns across the Territory and keep tradies on the tools,” he said.

“Improving services for the drive market assists people who choose to drive to the Territory, and those who fly in and hire a vehicle to get around.

“We’re committed to improving service and business opportunities for Territorians, no matter where they live.”

Tourism and Hospitality Minister Natasha Fyles said the government was responding to the surge in popularity of Territory holidays.

“As a result of Covid-19 there has been a significant additional interest in driving holidays, and we are supporting Territory businesses with popular schemes such as Roadhouse to Recovery,” she said.

“This funding is enabling new business opportunities to get off the ground for tourism and hospitality establishments in remote areas.

“I encourage all roadhouses, wayside inns and caravan parks in remote locations to lodge an application.”
