Nuttall Place set to temporarily close during prime party time to assist Monsoons’ safety

Darwin Council is set to approve the temporary closure of Nuttall Place, at the request of Monsoons Nightclub and Party Bar.

DARWIN Council is set to approve the temporary closure of Nuttall Place from 8pm-4am from Thursdays to Saturdays, at the request of Monsoons Nightclub and Party Bar.

Darwin chief executive Scott Waters said installing bollards for the closure would help patrons comply with Covid-19 restrictions, improve pedestrian safety and could even provide activation opportunities in the long term.

“Covid-19 restrictions have seen longer queues and wait times to enter the premises, with patrons spilling from the footpath, between parked cars on to Nuttall Place,” he said. “This has caused … concern in relation to patron safety as vehicle movements in the area increase, carparking movements increase and the use of the lane changes from day time delivery of goods.”

Monsoons will pay for installation and maintenance if it is approved by council at Tuesday night’s meeting.
