ANYONE wanting to apply for a government grant or contract will have to have their entire workforce double vaccinated under strict new rules, the NT News can reveal.

Sources say work is currently under way to require anyone applying for future government contracts has to ensure their workforce is double vaccinated.

It is understood this means any future tender or grant awarded will require the company, individual or non-government organisation to have a 100 per cent double vaccination rate.

Existing contractors will also receive written advice to remind them of their obligations under the chief health officer directions regarding vaccinations, sources say.

It is understood the government is expected to make an announcement within days.

The Territory’s remote communities have hit more than 50 per cent fully vaccinated status, the Sunday Territorian can also reveal.

More than 65 per cent of remote Territorians have received their first dose while 52 per cent are fully vaccinated in communities where NT Health is the primary healthcare provider.

Health Minister Natasha Fyles said it was promising to see a significant rise in vaccination rates in some communities. “We have seen strong vaccination rates as high as 90 per cent in several remote communities, which shows we have made significant progress in the remote rollout,” Ms Fyles said.

However, some communities, such as Willowra in Central Australia and Alpurrurulam in the Barkly region, remain as low as 6 per cent fully vaccinated.

“There is still more work to do in other communities, which is why we will continue to focus our efforts and resources in the pockets of hesitancy to ensure they have the best possible protection,” the minister said.

“This week we administered the 300,000th dose since the rollout started, which is clear evidence Territorians are listening to the health advice and rolling up their sleeves.”

Territorians yet to book their vaccine appointment can choose to get vaccinated by booking at an NT Health Clinic, GP, pharmacy or Aboriginal controlled community health organisation. To book your appointment at an NT Health clinic, call the Covid-19 hotline on 1800 490 484.
