A dispute over a mobile telephone is believed to have sparked a series of events that forced a leading Darwin private school into lockdown.
Haileybury Rendall School was placed into lockdown about 2.10pm on Monday.
In a statement to the NT News, the school confirmed a knife was involved.
“At approximately 2.10pm this afternoon, two students from Haileybury Rendall School were involved in an altercation,” the statement said.
“Sometime later one of the students acquired a knife and staff on hand quickly deescalated the situation, and the police were called.
“At the same time, the school went into lockdown and followed all safety protocols.
“No one was harmed or at risk during this incident.
“The safety and wellbeing of our students is our highest priority.
“The students involved have been sent home and the school will conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation into this matter.”
In a statement forwarded to parents, Haileybury Rendall principal Andrew McGregor confirmed the lockdown.
“We have had a lockdown at school this afternoon from approximately 2.10pm,” the statement said.
“The school successful (sic) followed lockdown protocols and everyone remained safe. Police have attended the site and we have been given the all clear to resume business as normal.”
NT Police confirmed officers attended the incident.
“Members attended and the incident wasn’t as reported,” a police spokeswoman said.
There were no charges or arrests from the call-out.
About 880 students attend Haileybury school in Darwin.
