ONE of the Territory’s most expensive private schools has officially opened its new $8m boarding house.

Haileybury Rendall School Darwin recently unveiled its new boarding house after construction began last year.

It will house domestic and international students from years 7 to 12 and is part of Haileybury Rendall’s efforts to expand its Northern Territory and international presence.

The building includes male and female accommodation with single and dual occupancy rooms, common areas, study spaces and a large cafeteria.

It comes as Haileybury Rendall Darwin was named Boarding School of the Year at the Australian Education Awards.

Haileybury Rendall Darwin principal Andrew McGregor said the new boarding house would prove an invaluable asset to the school.

“Since our opening in 2018, HRS has grown from just over 300 students to almost 900 students which is a positive endorsement from the community of all that we are doing to make HRS the best school in northern Australia,” he said.

“Our continued growth has also enabled us to attract high-quality teachers from across Australia – every time we receive an application to join our team at HRS it is another endorsement that we are on the right track.

“Our new boarding house is just one element of our expansion. It will not only showcase HRS to the rest of the world but will provide families in the Territory and neighbouring states with another choice of a high-quality boarding education that’s closer to home.”

Haileybury Rendall is considered one of the Territory’s most elite schools and is the second most expensive in Darwin.

The private school took over the campus of the former Kormilda College in 2018.

The unveiling comes during a busy week for education, with public school teachers to go on strike over the NT government’s four-year wage freeze and understaffing.
