All the Territorians recognised at the 2024 Australian Training Awards

The Northern Territory won gold at the Australian Training Awards in Canberra at the weekend, taking out some of the top awards up for grabs. ALL THE WINNERS.

The Northern Territory won gold at the Australian Training Awards in Canberra at the weekend, taking out some of the top awards.

Forming the IAHA NT Aboriginal Health Academy, Indigenous Allied Health Australia, IAHA Group Training, and Fox Education and Consultancy won first place in the Industry Collaboration Award.

The collaboration provides school-based traineeships in allied health assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 11 and 12 through a culturally supportive group training model.

Representatives from the Territory were also recognised across several other categories.

Maureen Simon, a teacher with three decades experience in the early childhood sector, was runner up in the VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year Award.

Silver went to Charles Darwin University for the Large Training Provider of the Year Award, and Surf Life Saving NT for the Small Employer of the Year Award.

Response Employment and Training meanwhile took home bronze in the Innovation in VET Award.

“Vocational Education and Training (VET) is the backbone of the Northern Territory, and it is incredibly rewarding to see our trainers, students, industry, and training providers recognised on the national stage,” Education and Training Minister Jo Hersey said.

“Their significant contributions play a crucial role in shaping and strengthening the NT workforce, and their dedication and achievements are invaluable to the Territory’s growth and development.”

Federal Skills and Training Minister Andrew Giles said: “the Australian Training Awards are about recognising the dedication and achievements of people in the VET sector and how VET plays a future-shifting role for so many individuals and the communities they live and work in”.

Industry Collaboration Award (Gold) – Indigenous Allied Health Australia, IAHA Group Training and Fox Education and Consultancy

VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year Award (Runner-up) – Maureen Simon

With 30 years’ experience in the early childhood sector, Maureen has taught early childhood education at CDU for three years. Maureen’s innate ability to guide, inspire and elevate the educational journey of her students will positively impact children for years to come.

Large Training Provider of the Year Award (Silver) – Charles Darwin University

As a multi-campus, dual sector tertiary education institution, Charles Darwin University (CDU) is a leading provider of VET in the NT. A decision to re-establish CDU TAFE as a distinct vocational training faculty within the institution has had immediate success, with a 22 per cent rise in VET enrolments in 2023.

Small Employer of the Year Award (Silver) – Surf Life Saving Northern Territory

Surf Life Saving Northern Territory is the peak agency for coastal safety in the NT. The not-for-profit community service organisation works closely with Surf Life Saving South Australia to provide nationally recognised training to 600 active members.

Innovation in VET Award (Bronze) – Response Employment and Training Pty Ltd

Response Employment and Training is a registered training organisation that offers aged care, disability services, community support and leadership qualifications. With a strong focus on community-led training, the RTO supports regional council staff and community members to become work skill instructors, empowering communities to deliver ‘on-the-ground’ training.
