THE Northern Territory’s unemployment rate has risen from 4.2 per cent to 4.8 per cent, with more than 5000 jobs lost last month.
Australian Bureau of Statistics employment data released today show the NT’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate rose to 4.8 per cent in September, as the number of people employed in the NT sunk down from 130,600 to 125,300 within a month.
The bulk of the jobs lost between August and September were full-time, with about 3,900 full-time jobs and 1500 part-time jobs lost.

It marks the first time the Territory has seen an increase in unemployment since June.
However, the NT’s unemployment rate is still the second best in the nation after the Australian Capital Territory.

The overall participation rate – the proportion of the working-age population in work or actively looking for work – also fell slightly in the NT to 70 per cent.
