Cafe Central owner Daniel Treacy has operated his neighbourhood cafe for the past six years without trouble but recently realised he needed to submit an application for alfresco dining.

“If this outdoor dining was to be rejected then we would have to unfortunately close the cafe,” the petition said.

“This is because it would not be possible to sustain the business.”

A sign in the cafe’s window says that some of its neighbours had objected to the alfresco dining application.
