Darwin Auto Motors Break in

THIEVES got away with two vehicles and caused $10,000 worth of damage after breaking in to Darwin Auto Motors in Pinelands overnight yesterday.

Manager Shamir Hossain said he was frustrated at the incident, with the business waiting for a BizSecure grant to improve security at their Pinelands’ business.

“They broke the back door and got into the mechanic shop, stole two keys and cars from the car yard,” he said.

“One is a Toyota HiLux one is a Holden commodore. The HiLux had a bull bar which they used to break through the fence. The Police found the commodore but are still looking for the HiLux.”

Mr Hossain said he had hoped to spend $10,000 on security upgrades, $8000 of which would come from the Biz Secure grant, but had been held up from the Northern Territory Government.

“We’ll need new fencing, $10,000 for the fencing which is almost destroyed, the back door is completely damaged,” he said.

“It’s really frustrating what’s happened to us, we were broken into in 2019 and applied for Biz Secure October last year to update security system … we were ready to upgrade our system but we’ve been waiting for it to be approved.

“We would have installed an alarm system so if someone enters, the alarm starts ringing, notifies Police and the security company.”

The recovered Holden commodore remains at the Peter Macauley Centre in Berrimah for forensic investigations.
