Welcome to the Trading Day blog for Friday, May 16. The ASX 200 index closed 0.6 per cent higher to 8343.70 points.
Wall Street's major indexes closed mixed as Walmart announced prices rises and Middle East-touring US President Donald Trump hit out at Apple's India plans. The S&P 500 closed 0.4 per cent higher, the Dow Jones index gained 0.7 per cent and the technology-focused Nasdaq fell 0.2 per cent.
Cryptocurrency giant bitcoin is below $US104,000.
The Aussie dollar is trading around US64.29c.
