AN ICONIC northern suburbs store will soon close after more than 15 years of trading

ICONIC Nightcliff store Coco Loco will shut its doors after more than a decade of trading.
The owner, who did not want to be named, will close the store within the next two months.
Coco Loco opened in 2002 and became one of Darwin’s go-to stores for Balinese and tropical clothing.
This announcement comes after Deloitte Access Economics’ quarterly Business Outlook found the NT economy was still in strife.
The owner said while his business had experienced hardships as a result of the Territory’s economy, his main reason for closing was he planned to retire.
“I’ve done my time in the shop,” he said.

“Things have been a bit hard, the markets have been good and I’ve made good friends. Now I want to sit on a beach on the Sunshine Coast and terrorise my grandkids.”
He enjoyed his memories of trading in Darwin and the opportunities for meeting people from across the country and world.
“I’ve been getting people down south didn’t think twice about coming here,” he said.

“I had a girl, about 16, who said ‘I remember coming here when I was a girl, I used to come here with my mummy’.”
He hadn’t set a definite date for closing but looked forward to meeting his customers again before leaving the Territory.
“Thanks to all the locals for support,” he said.
