KATHERINE’S first supermarket has closed its doors for the final time after serving the community for nearly a century

KATHERINE’S first supermarket has closed its doors for the final time after serving the community for nearly a century.

The Five Star supermarket been operating on Katherine Terrace since 1926 until it’s current owner Bob Loughnan made the decision to close up for good last Friday.

He had reportedly been struggling to keep the store open in recent years because of a dwindling customer base and the feeling the pinch of the government’s new alcohol policies.

This comes after another Northern Territory business, the Arnhem Club in Nhulunbuy, also closed their doors on Saturday.
