US election 2020: Four states that won’t be called tonight

Four crucial states will not be called tonight, leaving the result of the US election hanging agonisingly in the balance until at least Wednesday.

Four crucial states will not be called tonight, leaving the result of the US election hanging agonisingly in the balance.

It seems Americans will have to wait until at least Wednesday to find out the results of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin.

Pennsylvania has 20 electoral college votes, Georgia and Michigan 16 each, and Wisconsin 10.

As of about 2am on Wednesday, Donald Trump was leading Joe Biden in all four states, according to Decision Desk HQ.

In Pennsylvania, with nearly 70 per cent of the vote counted, Mr Trump was up by 14.4 points, or more than 700,000 votes.

In Georgia, with around 90 per cent counted, Mr Trump was up 2.6 per cent or nearly 120,000 votes.

In Michigan he was up 8.5 points, or nearly 270,000 votes, and in Wisconsin he was up 3.6 points, or nearly 95,000 votes.

Philadelphia is expected to resume reporting mail-in ballot numbers from 9am on Wednesday, Bloomberg reported, and state officials said a final result would be known “within days”.

Wisconsin should have a final tally overnight, Georgia by Wednesday morning and Michigan by late Wednesday, according to Bloomberg.

Mr Trump announced at a White House press conference after 2am that he had already won, despite millions of votes yet to be counted.

The President said it was “clear we have won Georgia”, “we’re winning Michigan”, “we’re winning Wisconsin”, and “most importantly, we’re winning Pennsylvania by a tremendous amount as well”.

He claimed it was suspicious that Republicans were winning by big margins when states abruptly stopped counting, describing it as “a fraud on the American public”.

“This is an embarrassment to our country,” he said.

“We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election. So our goal now is to ensure the integrity, for the good of the nation, we want the law to be used in a proper manner.”

Mr Trump said Republicans would “be going to the Supreme Court”.

“We want all voting to stop,” he said.

“We don’t want them to find any ballots at 4am in the morning and add them to the list. It’s a very sad moment. To me, this is a very sad moment. As far as I’m concerned, we already have won it.”
