‘Not a thing’: Kamala Harris torn to shreds over response to question about Joe Biden on The View

Kamala Harris has been torn to shreds over her answer to a seemingly simple question: “Would you have done something differently to Biden?”

Kamala Harris has been torn to shreds for declaring she couldn’t think of anything she would have done differently from President Joe Biden over the last four years.

After being repeatedly grilled during a brutal sit-down on 60 Minutes, the Democratic presidential candidate found herself in unexpected hot water during a friendly interview on The View.

Introduced by Whoopi Goldberg as “the next president of the United States’, things took a turn when she was asked a curveball question by lawyer Sunny Hostin.

“Would you have done something differently than President Biden during the last four years?” the co-host asked.

“There is not a thing that comes to mind in terms of — and I’ve been a part of most of the decisions that have had impact,” Harris replied.

In typical all-caps fashion, Donald Trump seized on the underwhelming answer, accusing Harris of “being exposed as a ‘dummy’ every time she does a show”.

“(Harris) just stated to the degenerates on The View that she would have done nothing different than Crooked Joe Biden,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.

“The WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES,” he added.

“Kamala Harris is more of the same,” Trump’s running mate JD Vance gloated. “She admits it herself.”

“I’m floored by this,” CNN senior political commentator Scott Jennings said. “Honestly can’t believe it.”

Political strategist Chris Barron argued Harris’ comment would sink her chances at the White House, “Say good night to Kamala’s campaign.”

Harris had an opportunity to expand on that answer later on Tuesday during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

“You are a member of the present administration, but under a Harris administration, what would the major changes be, and what would stay the same?” Colbert asked.

“I’m obviously not Joe Biden,” Harris replied.

“I’ve noticed,” quipped Colbert.

“And so that would be one change in terms of, but also I think it’s important to say with, you know, 28 days to go, I’m not Donald Trump,” Harris continued.

“And so when we think about the significance of what this next generation of leadership looks like, were I to be elected president.

“It is about, frankly, I I, I, I love the American people and I, I believe in our country, I, I I love that it is our character in nature to be an ambitious people. You know, we, we have aspirations.”

Harris continued by describing her economic plan, which involves an expansion of the child tax credit and tax breaks for first-time home buyers and small business owners.

Those measures, estimated to add $3.5 billion to the federal deficit over the next decade, are set to be funded by a tax increase on the wealthiest Americans.

Piers Morgan was quick to condemn Harris for her response.

“The more interviews Kamala Harris does, the weaker a presidential candidate she seems. Just endless word salad bilge,” he wrote.

“Democrats must be kicking themselves they didn’t have a proper contest to replace Biden.”

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson, who has emerged as one of the loudest voices against Harris, was also savage in his criticism.

“We told you. And now Kamala Harris has told you. She openly admits she would NOT have done anything differently than Joe Biden,” he wrote on X.

“High prices for gas and groceries. Open borders. High crime. Endless wars. A Harris Administration is just 4 more years of the same failed policies.”

It highlighted the delicate juggling act Harris has had to perform; finding a balance between taking credit for the Biden administration’s successes while leaning away from its failures.

Harris struggles to say how she'd differ from Biden

Last week, Biden assured reporters that he and Harris were in constant contact and “singing from the same song sheet”.

“Now, she was a major player in everything we’ve done, including passage of legislation which we were told we could never pass. And so she’s been, and her, her staff is interlocked with mine in terms of all the things we’re doing,” he added.

Harris takes aim at Trump, boasts about Republican support

There were some wins for Harris during her latest round of media interviews.

During her chat on The View, she spoke about campaigning recently with Republican former congresswoman Liz Cheney.

There are more than 200 former officials from past Republican presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush, as well as officials tied to Republican heavyweights John McCain and Mitt Romney, who have endorsed her, Harris said on the chat show.

“We really are building a coalition around some very fundamental issues, including that we love our country and that we have to put country before party,” she added.

The Vice President also fired shots at Donald Trump, who has faced criticism for falsely claiming disaster reliefs for Hurricane Helene were being diverted to help undocumented migrants.

“It’s profound, and it is the height of irresponsibility and frankly callousness. … Lives are literally at stake right now,” Harris said on The View.

“I mean we’re talking about real human beings and their lives and they’re losing everything, everything.

“The idea that somebody would be playing political games for the sake of himself – but this is so consistent about Donald Trump.”

Presidential race still on a knife-edge, Harris hold slight lead

Harris and Trump have been hitting the airwaves this week in a last-ditch bid to reach out to the few remaining undecided voters in the final stretch of an election seen as one of the closest in US Moden history.

Harris has maintained a lead of two-to-three points in national polling since mid-August, despite presidential and vice presidential debates, encouraging jobs data, an interest rate cut, escalating international crises and a devastating hurricane.

A poll from Siena College and The New York Times out Tuesday highlighted the deadlock, finding Harris ahead of her Republican rival by 49 percent to 46 percent -- although it had the pair in a dead heat in September.

Poll-watchers expect the stalemate to break only in the last couple of weeks before election day on November 5, as the small fraction of wavering Americans who will decide the election break one way or the other.

In the seven battleground states seen as likely to determine the election, the race is even tighter.

The new poll gave Trump the edge on who is the stronger leader but, crucially, revealed that registered voters see Harris as the change candidate.

‘Don’t tax the rich’: Trump unloads

Trump meanwhile maintained his aggressive posture, attacking Harris as a “very low intelligence person” on conservative influencer Ben Shapiro’s podcast.

The 78-year-old Republican claimed she had been “missing in action” over the federal response to Hurricane Helene -- even though Harris visited the disaster zone last week.

Trump, who was on a blitz of several media organizations, then criticised Harris in an interview on right-wing network Newsmax over her plans to pay for her agenda.

“You don’t tax the rich... the rich pay most of the tax in the country,” he told listeners.

And, in a more personal moment, he told Los Angeles radio station KFI AM 640 he sees campaign interviews as therapeutic.

“You know what this is for me? Therapy, okay? I’m speaking to a smart man. This is like, some people go to a psychiatrist. I don’t have time so this is, like, my therapy,” he told host John Kobylt.
