‘I won’: Donald Trump rages after Joe Biden victory

As supporters of Joe Biden celebrate in the streets of America’s cities, Donald Trump is fuming in the White House, insisting that he has won.

Donald Trump is still insisting that he has won the US presidential election despite it being called for Joe Biden.

News networks announced Joe Biden as the winner of the US presidential election on Saturday (US time) while Mr Trump was playing golf.

He returned to the White House amid wild scenes of celebration and was greeted with boos and middle fingers.

Mr Trump has released a statement saying he doesn’t intend to concede and followed this up with tweets that he believes he won.

Mr Trump has won 70.4 million votes so far in this election (he rounded up a bit), and that figure will rise over the coming days as all 50 states gradually complete their count. It puts him in second place on the all-time popular vote rankings, ahead of former president Barack Obama’s landslide win in 2008.

If you’re interested, Joe Biden has won 74.5 million. But he isn’t a sitting president, so by the frame of reference Mr Trump set out, he’s 100 per cent correct.

But observers have not been refused admittance to any vote counting centre. It is categorically untrue.

There was a brief legal dispute in Pennsylvania over how far away observers had to stand from election workers as they counted the votes.

The Trump campaign won a legal victory there, which means its observers are now allowed to be six feet away. They were further away before that.

The President has provided no evidence to support his claim that observers were ever denied entry.

Vice-president elect Joe Biden delivered a victory speech on Saturday night in front of a cheering crowd in Wilmington, Delaware.

“Folks, the people of this nation have spoken. They’ve delivered us a clear victory, a convincing victory, a victory for we the people,” he said.

“We’ve won with the most votes ever cast for a presidential ticket ever cast in the history of the nation.

“Tonight, we’re seeing all over the nation, an outpouring of joy, hope, renewed faith in tomorrow. And I’m humbled by the trust and confidence you’ve placed in me.”

The White House has called a lid for the day, which means Mr Trump does not intend to address the public.

In his previous statement, Mr Trump refused to concede defeat in the election.

“We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him. They don’t want the truth to be exposed. The simple fact is this election is far from over,” Mr Trump said.

“Legal votes decide who is president, not the news media.

“Beginning Monday, our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated.

“The American people are entitled to an honest election. This means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots. This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election.

“It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters.

“What is Biden hiding? I will not rest until the American people have the honest vote count they deserve and that democracy demands.”

However, the Biden campaign is not calling for fraudulent ballots to be counted, it is calling on the Trump campaign to produce evidence to back up its claims of fraud.

So far, it has produced no such evidence.
