Huge snub revealed after former First Lady Melania Trump’s White House bombshell
Donald Trump has been hit with a massive snub just days after wife Melania dropped a huge hint about the former First Couple’s future.
Just days after three words from Melania Trump sent the rumour mill into overdrive, husband Donald Trump has copped a huge slight.
There has been widespread speculation the former US President was plotting a White House return ever since he left the top job early last year. Now, that speculation has reached fever pitch following two high-profile interviews in recent days.
Melania’s bombshell
In her first interview since leaving the White House in January 2021 after Donald Trump’s crushing election defeat, the 52-year-old spoke with Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Pete Hegseth about her infamous Vogue snub, her NFT projects and the leadership of Mr Trump’s successor, Joe Biden.
But it was one major clue about the Trumps’ future plans that raised eyebrows, with the mother-of-one hinting to the network the couple could be plotting a presidential comeback.
“I think we achieved a lot in four years of the Trump administration,” Ms Trump said of her husband’s single term in office.
When pressed directly about whether she would return to the White House if Mr Trump decided to go after the top job again in 2024, Ms Trump confirmed it was a possibility.
“Never say never,” was her coy response.
Massive Trump snub
Hot on the heels of Ms Trump’s Fox interview, White House chief medical adviser Dr Anthony Fauci sat down for an interview of his own with CNN’s Jim Acosta.
During the discussion, Dr Fauci was asked if he would trust Mr Trump’s ability to handle Covid or another public health emergency if he were to be re-elected in 2024 – and his response was brutal.
“If you look at the history of what the response was during the administration, I think, you know, at best you could say it wasn’t optimal,” Dr Fauci said.
“And I think just history will speak for itself about that.”
Dr Fauci was also asked whether he would stay on in his post under a second Trump administration – and his reply was even more blunt.
“Well, no,” the 81-year-old said with a laugh.
Dr Fauci and Mr Trump butted heads repeatedly throughout the pandemic, with Mr Trump threatening to sack him if he had won a second term in 2020.
Trump’s hints
Last December, Donald Trump dropped a major hint he was considering a rerun during an interview with Nigel Farage for UK channel GB News.
Mr Trump finished the interview saying, “We’re going to have a big ’22 and I think we’re going to have an even bigger ’24”, after earlier saying he enjoyed politics as he was “helping people”.
Just a month prior, Mr Trump had also made headlines after telling Fox he was “certainly thinking about” running again in 2024.
For Mr Trump to be eligible to run in 2024, he’ll need to win the Republican presidential nomination – and officially, the campaign for that role doesn’t begin until after the US’s midterm elections in November 2022.
According to the New York Post, Mr Trump is “widely expected to launch a third consecutive bid for the presidency later this year”.
Melania skewered
Meanwhile, the former First Lady’s interview has unleashed a barrage of backlash, with Vanity Fair’s Beth Levin noting Donald Trump had made it “abundantly clear” that he “absolutely hated the job of being president”, but predicting he would “probably leave an official announcement up until the very last second in order to wring as much money as possible out of his supporters”.
Ms Levin also skewered Ms Trump, citing a 2021 Politico report to claim that “while Melania also detested her time serving the country, she’d nevertheless support the guy she appears to be unhappily married to should he run for re-election”.
CNN also responded to the Fox interview by pointing out that Ms Trump had never confirmed how much of the proceeds of her NFT projects would go to charity, noting that while “typically, most modern first ladies establish foundations or organisations – generally not-for-profit – that further the initiatives they began during their White House tenures”, Ms Trump had refused to clarify details of her NFT sales.
“CNN has multiple times sought clarity on how large a portion of the sales will be or have been dedicated to charitable endeavours, and to which charities, and has not received an answer,” the network claimed.
