Eric and Lara Trump talk about upcoming election and life inside the Trump family

Eric Trump has blasted Joe Biden, taking a not-so-subtle dig at his scandal magnet son in a candid Australian TV interview.

Sky News Australia meets the Trumps: Erin Molan with Trump family at Florida country club

One of Donald Trump’s oldest children has taken a brutal swipe at the President Joe Biden, accusing him of being a lousy parent.

Sky News Australia anchor Erin Molan recently sat down with Eric and Lara Trump at Florida’s Trump National Golf Club Jupiter to discuss the upcoming election and the inner workings of the Trump family.

Eric Trump, the son of former US President Donald Trump and Executive Vice President of the Trump Organisation, was flanked by his wife, Lara Trump, a key figure in the Republican Party as Co-Chair of the Republican National Committee during the interview.

Lara, attempting to humanise the myth that is Donald Trump, said the most polarising man in modern politics is a grandfather first once his grandchildren are in the room.

She said she aimed to give her kids a normal upbringing, but they have got to the age where they realise they’re repeatedly seeing their grandfather on the nightly news.

“We want our kids to have a very normal upbringing. I think they know something is a little different with Grandpa because you see him on TV a lot,” Lara said.

“But they know him as grandpa, and they love him for no other reason (than that).

“He has so many distractions, but once our kids are in the room, it’s the only thing he wants to do. He wants to give them candy and send them back to us.”

Eric Trump said his father had raised him and his siblings well, mentioning that Donald would repeatedly tell them never to do drugs, drink or smoke.

In the same breath, he fired a shot at Hunter Biden, who pleaded guilty hours ago in a federal tax case, suggesting the current US President hadn’t been as stringent.

“My mother and father raised five great kids. There’s no Hunter Biden, there’s no excessive drug use or crazy laptops,” Eric told Molan.

“We’re hard workers and every chance we got we represent our country well.

“There’s no better father a child could have.”

Eric claims the Biden administration was a sign of a “weak America” and called on voters to reinstate his father, who he believes is thoroughly anti-war and will work to quell the tensions around the world.

“American weakness has created a void in the world. That’s because you have a weak administration,” he said.

“My father was trying to get America out of every war. He didn’t want wars. He wanted to have the strongest military on the face of this earth in case we ever had to use it, but he didn’t want wars.

“He wants the greatest economy, education. He wants safe borders. He wants common sense.

“We don’t have common sense as a world right now.

“The vacuum that has become this Biden-Harris administration has just created turmoil all over the place.”

The interview inevitably turned to the failed assassination attempt on Trump earlier this year.

“It was a horrible moment; our two children almost saw their grandfather get assassinated on live TV.”

“How could a madman be left on a roof at 130 yards, how could that have possibly have happened? You have agencies here spending billions of dollars every year to not allow crazy people on roofs with rifles.

“We got a call from the hospital about an hour later when he was about to get a scan and he said ‘nothing changes, we go to Milwaukee tomorrow’.

“The fact that he was thinking that in the midst of literally being shot … he had not planned to go to Milwaukee on Sunday, but he said ‘we’re going tomorrow’,” Lara chimed in.

“I think about it a lot, if that had happened (the assassination), what would it have meant for this country? “I felt like I had to talk to our kids about it because they were going to find out that something happened to grandpa.

“That was probably the most challenging thing, to talk to a four and a six-year-old about somebody wanting to hurt their grandpa.

“They don’t understand why. They don’t understand this.”
