Mum accused of tossing baby out window had infant who died in 2008
THE mum accused of tossing her newborn baby daughter out of a seventh-floor window will be investigated over another baby who died in 2008.
THE former child welfare worker accused of tossing her newborn out of a seventh-floor window in New York City had another infant who died seven years earlier, sources said Wednesday.
“The baby was sickly and in and out of the hospital for 17 days,” a source said.
In 2008, the Westchester County medical examiner concluded that Jennifer Berry’s 17-day-old baby had died of sudden infant death syndrome — but now investigators will be taking a second look at the case.
“In light of what’s transpired, we will be reviewing the case again,” said Lucian Chalfen, a spokesman for the Westchester County district attorney.
On Tuesday night, Berry, 33, was charged with second-degree murder and manslaughter for allegedly throwing her newborn girl out of her boyfriend’s bathroom window after giving birth in the shower.
In a strange twist, Berry worked for the city’s Administration for Children’s Services for six months, from July 2007 until January 2008, when she was fired for not showing up to work, a source close to the case said.
She spent the first three months of her time at ACS in the training academy, then spent another three months in an on-the-job training program, according to the source.
During the training program, Berry worked with 11 families “under close supervision,” the source added.
