Comedian Louis CK compares Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler in 1400-word screed

COMEDIANS are known for their one-liners, but sometimes one line just won’t do. That was definitely the case here.

Trump's troubling one-liners

COMEDIANS are known for their one-liners but sometimes one line simply won’t do.

That was the case when Louis CK turned his attention to Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump. In a lengthy screed — more than 1400 words — the Emmy award-winning comedian compared Trump to Adolf Hitler, called him an “insane bigot” and said a vote for the businessman-turned-politician was the equivalent of helping America commit suicide.

“Please stop it with voting for Trump,” he wrote in an email to his fans on Saturday.

“It was funny for a little while (but) the guy is Hitler. And by that I mean that we are being Germany in the 30s. Do you think they saw the sh*t coming? Hitler was just some hilarious and refreshing dude with a weird comb over who would say anything at all.”

The comedian urged Americans to vote with their heads instead of their guts. He said just like Germany pre-Holocaust, Americans would live to regret voting in the wrong guy.

“A vote for Trump is so clearly a gut-vote, and again I get it. But add a little brain to it and look the guy up. Because if you vote for him because of how you feel right now, the minute he’s president, you’re going to regret it.

“You’re going to regret it even more when he gives the job to his son. Because American democracy is broken enough that a guy like that could really f*** things up. That’s how Hitler got there. He was voted into power by a fatigued nation and when he got inside he did all his Hitler things and no one could stop him.”

He said Trump was a “liar” and was “playing” the American people.

“Listen to Trump. Listen to all of it. Everything he says. If you liked when he said that ‘torture works’ then go look at where he took it back the next day. He’s a f****** liar.

“Trump is not your best. He’s the worst of all of us. He’s a symptom to a problem that is very real. But don’t vote for your own cancer. You’re better than that.”

He said Trump was not “evil or a monster” but that Hitler wasn’t a monster, either.

“The problem with saying that guys like that are monsters is that we don’t see them coming when they turn out to be human, which they all are. Everyone is. Trump is a messed up guy with a hole in his heart that he tries to fill with money and attention.

“He can never ever have enough of either and he’ll never stop trying. He’s sick. Which makes him really interesting. And he pulls you towards him which somehow feels good or fascinatingly bad. He’s not a monster. He’s a sad man. But all this makes him horribly dangerous if he becomes president.

“Give him another TV show. Let him pay to put his name on buildings. But please stop voting for him.”

Louis CK is the latest in a string of big names to take pot shots at the man whose chances of becoming president continue to firm. Last week, John Oliver compared the real estate mogul to a back mole.

“It may have seemed harmless a year ago, but it has gotten frighteningly bigger and it is no longer wise to ignore it,” Oliver said.

“Donald Trump can seem appealing until you take a closer look, much like a lunch buffet at a strip club. Or the NFL. Or having a pet chimpanzee.”

Fellow Republican Mitt Romney was next. He launched an extraordinary attack on Trump, describing him as “a phony” and “very not smart”. He said The Donald is “playing the American public for suckers” and his policies would lead to recession.

“His foreign policies would make America and the world less safe. He has neither the temperament nor the judgement to be president. And his personal qualities would mean that America would cease to be a shining city on a hill.”

While Romney, 68, didn’t endorse a candidate, he called on voters to support anyone but Trump to ensure a Republican win at the general election in November. Trump responded to the Romney tirade on social media.

“Looks like two-time failed candidate Mitt Romney is going to be telling Republicans how to get elected. Not a good messenger!” Trump tweeted.

“Failed candidate Mitt Romney, who ran one of the worst races in presidential history, is working with the establishment to bury a big ‘R’ win!

“I am the only one who can beat Hillary Clinton. I am not a Mitt Romney, who doesn’t know how to win. Hillary wants no part of ‘Trump’.”

The race to the White House heats up Wednesday next week when key states Ohio and Florida vote in winner-take-all primaries.
