‘Unforgettable’: Iconic Bali tourist spot is destroyed

Devastated tourists and locals are mourning the destruction of one of Bali’s most popular attractions.

Bounty and Paddy's pub in Bali demolished

One of Bali’s most popular tourist attractions has been destroyed, leaving visitors and locals “devastated”.

Balinese YouTube vlogger and bar owner, who is known to locals as Uncle Chan, captured footage showing the mass destruction of two popular nightclubs Paddy’s Pub and Bounty Discotheque.

Paddy’s Irish Pub was opened in 1998 and has been a staple of the nightlife culture in Kuta, Bali.

In October 2002, Paddy’s was one of three popular spots targeted in the horrific Bali bombing attacks.

A total of 202 people, including 88 Australians, were killed in the blasts.

In 2003, Paddy’s Pub reopened and invited the world to heal with them from the senseless killings.

Bounty Discotheque, dubbed the ‘sister of Paddys’ is affectionately known as a “beacon for nightlife lovers”.

Renowned for its ‘wet n’ wild’ events and ship-like exterior, it similarly cemented itself as a leading attraction in Kuta.

Considering all that they’ve been through, it’s a tragic end to a nightlife legacy.

Sentimental viewers were quick to recall their time at the iconic hotspots with one commenting, “it was my very first visit to Bali in the 90s, so sad”.

While no one knows what comes next for Paddy’s and Bounty, many have speculated that they will become the sites for hotel development.

“It’s the end of an era”, as one viewer said.
