Hidden symbol in Jetstar logo no one knew about
The budget airline has been around since 2003 but there some Aussies who are only just discovering the hidden symbol on the company’s logo.
Aussie budget airline Jetstar has two logos — one with the company’s full name spelled out with an orange star and a shortened version with the word ‘Jet’, also followed by the orange star.
And while the airline has been around since 2003, some Aussies have only just discovered there’s a hidden detail in the shoertned logo — that there’s an arrow shape between the negative space of the letter ‘t’ and the star.
“Has anyone noticed the arrow in the jetstar logo?” one person wrote on Reddit.
“Now I can’t un-see it. Thanks,” replied another.
“OMG,” a Facebook user wrote, while another added: “I will not be able to unsee this now!”
Digital agency eDigital, who created the symbol for the airline in 2003, explained the orange star was modified between the two emblems to include the arrow.
“The logo saves you the time to spell out the word ‘star’ by simply incorporating an actual star,” it states on its website.
“The star symbol has been slightly changed to show a forward-pointing arrow.”
Melbourne advertising blogger Zac Martin noticed the arrow back in 2010 after spending four days flying around each Aussie capital city.
“One thing I noticed, is that all of Australia does some terrible advertising, not just in this state,” he wrote in a post.
“But the other, after seeing it far too many times, was how awesome the Jetstar logo is. Take a look at the negative space between the T and the star.”
One person responded: “Cool, I never notice s**t like that.”
A Jetstar spokesperson told news.com.au of the discovery: “We’re very impressed by the eagle-eyed customers who’ve spotted this detail in our logo! This logo was designed just before our launch in 2003 and is used in formats that have restricted space, including on the tail of our aircraft.”
Many have pointed out the design is similar to American transportation and delivery company FedEx’s logo that was introduced in the ’90s.
It also features a hidden arrow symbol between the letters ‘e’ and ‘x’.
“I never noticed the arrow the negative space makes in the FedEx logo,” one person wrote on Reddit.
“That’s wild you’re just seeing it now! It’s the prime example of hidden iconography in logo design. Have fun finding all the other hidden stuff in popular logos,” another wrote.
Jetstar isn’t the only Aussie brand with a hidden symbol in its logo.
A TikToker recently shared the secret sign in the Great Northern logo.
To the naked eye, many would say the lager brand established in Cairns in 1927 featured a picture of a marlin in its emblem.
However, Tiktoker Paige Bush pointed out to her family members while having a barbecue, another creature was tucked away in the fish’s outline.
“No one ever believes me,” the caption to the post reads.
“I swear once you see it you can’t unsee (sic) it! I just need one person to back me up here!!”
Ms Bush goes on to acknowledge the Marlin before asking “do you know there’s a bird head as well?”.“I swear to God everyone thinks I’m making it up, or I’m drunk, or I’m going f*****g crazy when I try and tell them there’s a bird as well … it stresses me out because literally no one ever f*****g believes me,” she said.
Ms Bush then goes on to show her viewers while holding a beer bottle, how they can see the bird, by covering the marlin’s top fin and first third of its body and a tiny fin on the bottom.
She was able to successfully convince dozens of viewers a bird was there and sent the internet into a tailspin
