‘Hidden’ airport discovery no one expected
It’s not something you would ever expect to find in an airport during a layover, but when you do, you may never want to leave.
One of the biggest pain points of flying is having to deal with a long layover, especially after a lengthy flight.
Usually, quite delirious at this point, you want nothing but to just get to your final destination.
It helps that some airports have plenty to do to keep you awake and occupied, from shopping, dining or relaxing in a lounge – but not everyone has access to fancy lounges.
However, if chilling and killing time is something you want to do, Singapore’s Changi Airport has been praised for helping do just that.
The popular airport boasts a waterfall, canopy park, rock climbing and butterfly garden.
But one of its most impressive and standout features is its Aerotel hotel — the only airport transit hotel in the world equipped with an outdoor swimming pool, poolside bar and shower facilities to help you relax, refresh and unwind.
“Can you believe there’s a rooftop swimming pool and spa inside Singapore Airport that overlooks the runway!” travel blogger Bailey said in a TikTok.
“Can understand why it got ranked the best airport in the world.”
He said the pool is located in terminal one but travellers can easily get access from terminals two and three.
“WHAT this is amazing!!” one person responded.
“I would miss my flight because of this,” another joked.
Others said they have lived in Singapore their whole lives and didn’t know it existed.
“Lived in Singapore for all my life and still didn’t know about this LOL,” one wrote.
“Unbelievable lol in an airport as well,” a second added.
“The best way to unwind after a long fight,” Visit Singapore commented.
The bar and swimming pool package costs SGD 27.58 – $32.50 – for those aged 12 years and above. And for those between the ages of two to 11 years its SGD 11.99 – $14.
There’s unlimited access during pool operating hours, from 12pm to 10pm with the last booking at 9pm.
“If you’re looking to stretch your muscles after a long flight or simply enjoy a few hours of rest and comfort before your onward journey, book your swim at Aerotel and take in some sun or cool evening breeze while enjoying poolside cocktails, beers and beverages with food, bar bites accompanied by an extensive list of relaxing and upbeat music as you rejuvenate and chill out,” the site reads.
Arguably the best part? It also accommodates people who don’t have their swimmers handy.
“Head to the ‘Oops, I forgot my ... ‘ counter where you can find a selection of resort products, from swimwear to beach floats.”
Others also raved about the outdoor pool, taking to TikTok to show it off.
“Every airport needs a good pool to swim in and relax before your flight. This one is the Aerotel pool at Singapore Changi Terminal 1,” avid Aussie traveller Paul said in a clip.
“It is part of an airside hotel which my wife and I use but anyone can use it for a fee. Lovely spot.”
The hotel also has a gym, library facilities and 70 rooms where you can book in six-hour blocks. It’s the same for Crowne Plaza, also located inside the airport. It charges $305 for 6 hours and $330 for an 8-hour stay.
