A British woman who lives in Melbourne has revealed why finds it so tough dating in Australia.
Georgia Davies, originally from York, said Aussie men are “gorgeous, “stunning” and just her type, but there was just one problem. They’re just too “shy”.
“Can we all agree that dating in Australia is just not it – at all,” she said in recent TikTok that’s amassed more than 60,000 views.
“Here’s the problem – Australian men are gorgeous, stunning, exactly my type. Give me a man with a moustache any day of the week.
“However, why are you guys all so shy? I never realised coming from the UK just how confident the men there are.”
She said in comparison, there is no urgency with the men in Australia “whatsoever”.
“I feel like guys just don’t make the first move here, which is a little bit disappointing when you are very single.”
The content creator said while she’s aware Aussies have a laid-back attitude, she hoped when it comes to dating, men could be less chill about it.
“I feel like in general Australians are just a lot more laid back but if you guys could be a little less laid back when it comes to dating, that would be great. Has anyone else experienced this or is this just me?” she asked her more than 50,000 followers.
Many were quick comment with some Aussie men defending themselves, while many women sided with expat.
“We are just afraid of rejection” one person bluntly put it.
“We are just over dating,” wrote another, while a third requested: “Make it really obvious for us please.”
One man said guys get called “creepy” if they approach women to which Georgia responded: “If it’s done in the right way it shouldn’t be classed as creepy!”
One joked: “Being a man from the UK in Australia I feel this haha”.
Meanwhile, fellow women agreed that dating in Australia can be hard.
“Yes this is why my last two boyfriends were from the UK even though I’m in Melbourne,” one woman admitted.
“Listen Aussie men are the pits, they don’t approach and they don’t take anything seriously at all,” wrote another.
“Radio literally just said only 40 per cent of Aussie couples have Valentines plans & Australia is the least likely to have plans compared to the world,” a third added.
Some Aussie men continued they feared rejection as the reason they don’t approach women.
“Firstly, I just don’t think I’m attractive enough to be someone’s type so I expect approaching to go poorly and second I have not seen any girl show body language or hints to being interested to do so,” one man said.
