Tragic theory behind newborn baby’s death from Paris hotel window
New details have emerged about the tourist, 18, who allegedly threw her newborn baby from a Paris hotel room window. WARNING: Disturbing content.
The young American woman suspected of throwing her newborn baby out of a hotel window in Paris was part of a study group when the horrific incident occurred, it has been revealed.
EF Gap Year told MailOnline the 18 year-old tourist, who has not been identified, was on an international GAP year around Europe with a group of young adults and staying at the Ibis Styles hotel off the Rue de la Croix Saint-Simon in the 20th arrondissement.
The mother allegedly threw the newborn from the second floor of the budget hotel “with the umbilical cord still attached”.
Emergency services rushed the infant to the Robert Debre hospital in a neighbouring arrondissement “with a life threatening prognosis”.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic event, and our thoughts are with everyone affected during this difficult time,” Adam Bickelnan, a spokesman for EF Gap Year, said.
“We are fully co-operating with local authorities as they continue their investigation. Counselling support has been offered to all group members, and we are extending our support to the impact families.”
Child protection police authorities are investigating the case as a “homicide of a minor under 15”.
Investigators are looking into the incident as a potential case of “pregnancy denial”, a condition in which the mother is either unaware or cannot accept the pregnancy.
Witnesses reportedly called services around 6am on Monday morning when they were “alerted by screams”, according to Paris Match.
MailOnline reported sources at the scene “saw a group of three people leave the hotel to take a call sometime after the tragedy occurred”.
The Paris prosecutor’s office told Le Parisien the child passed away around 7.45am local time.
“The newborn was treated urgently but did not survive. The juvenile protection brigade was tasked with the investigation into the homicide of a minor,” a statement from the prosecutor’s office said.
“The mother, an American national, is part of a group of young adults travelling in Europe.
“She was taken to hospital where she is to undergo an operation following her delivery.
“She is also taken into custody on-site. The possibility of denial of pregnancy is considered.”
The street was reportedly closed for more than five hours after the incident, sources told MailOnline.
