Deadly snake crawls up woman’s leg while driving 80km/h on Melbourne freeway
This is not what you want to see crawling up your leg while driving 80km/h on the freeway.
A barefoot woman was given the fright of her life when a deadly tiger snake crawled up her leg while driving 80km/h on a freeway in Melbourne.
Police were called to Monash Freeway – near the Toorak Road exit – after a woman flagged down passing vehicles.
The woman explained to officers that while she was driving, she felt something on her foot and looked down to find a deadly tiger snake slithering up her leg. The species is the fourth most venomous snake in the world.
She was able to pull her car over to safety before rendering help from passing drivers.
Police called Melbourne Snake Control who removed the snake.
Needless to say, slapping the cuffs on this offender wasn’t an option so officers called in specialist forces.
The woman was assessed by paramedics, but was not bitten.
“Passing motorists were left in bewilderment as the massive snake was safely removed from the vehicle,” a statement from Victoria Police said.
“If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a thousand times … no two days are the same at Victoria Police.”
The incident comes just days after a Queensland teenager was bitten by and killed by a snake in his backyard.
Beau Horan didn’t realise he’d been struck on the foot by a brown snake early on Monday afternoon until he began to feel unwell.
The 16-year-old walked inside his house in Wurdong Heights, just outside Gladstone in central Queensland, and collapsed.
An ambulance raced the boy to Gladstone Base Hospital, and he was later airlifted to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he was placed on life support.
Beau died late on Wednesday evening. His devastated mother, Bek Eddy, was by his side.
“This close to Christmas, it’s just awful,” family friend Shaun Connolly told news.com.au.
Mr Connolly described Beau as an outgoing kid and “a real little gentleman” who was adored by his sisters and brought “joy” to many people in his small community.
“I’ve worked with Beau’s mum for many years, my wife is very good friends with her too, so they’ve all become like family to us,” he said.
“They’re lovely people. They’re a really lovely family. This is just unbelievable.”
