South Australia bans anyone currently in Victoria from crossing border
South Australia have announced it will no longer allow anyone – even residents who live in the state – to enter if they are coming from Victoria.
South Australia’s Premier Steven Marshall has announced no one – not even residents who live in the state – will be allowed entry if coming from Victoria.
Speaking to media on Friday, Mr Marshall said the new hard border will apply from next Tuesday after his state has recorded three new COVID-19 cases in just two days with 95 per cent of South Australia’s cases having come from Victoria.
Until now, only essential travellers and citizens have been allowed entry from Victoria into South Australia – but now even they will be blocked from entry.
Mr Marshall said the opening of his state border with NSW and the ACT was still off the cards, given the growing number of community transmission clusters.

“NSW are doing a huge amount of work to get in top of these clusters,” he said. “We are concerned that there has been further seeding of these clusters and the infections.”
In addition to the hardening of the border from next week, Mr Marshall will cap home gatherings to 50 people and weddings and funerals will only be allowed to have 100 people.
NSW residents will be faced with a round of new restrictions from Friday, with group bookings at all hospitality venues now capped at 10 people and a cap of 300 people in a venue, if the one person per square metre rule can be maintained.
