You can actually bring your house with you when you travel
SOMEONE has designed a fully-equipped house that you can literally pack up and bring with you on your travels. Seriously.
ANYONE who longs for the comfort of home while they’re travelling is going to love this.
Designers in Estonia have come up with a tiny, fully functional house that you can actually dissemble, pack up and take with you wherever you go.
Called Koda, the 23 square metre, freestanding dwelling includes one bedroom, a living room, kitchen, bathroom, terrace and a teeny set of stairs leading to the upper level.
It has connection points for water, electricity and sewerage and is designed to generate and conserve its own energy for when it’s used in remote areas.
And best of all, design collective Kodasema, which came up with the tiny portable home, says the mostly concrete structure can be dissembled in less than seven hours.
“Much of our quality of life depends on both our home and its location meeting our needs,” Kodasema said.
“When choosing where to live however, we may take risks on both fronts.
“Houses and apartments can’t be moved — but Koda can. It is freestanding, not fixed to the ground, and its design and structure allow it to be assembled and disassembled many times over.”
The home has quadruple-glazed windows and vacuum-insulated walls, which help keep a comfortable temperature inside.
And the modular units can be connected to create bigger areas.
At the moment it’s only on sale in Estonia for $A126,000, but its been short-listed for best small project at the World Architecture Festival in Berlin in November.
