We got a sneak peak inside Disneyland’s Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge

It’s been years in the making and now, Disneyland’s epic new land Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is here and it’s out of this world.

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge: Disney's epic new theme park

At more than 14 acres, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is the largest single-themed land in Disney Parks’ history — and the wonderful thing about Disney, is that they don’t miss a detail.

There is absolutely no reference to the outside world anywhere, making this experience that much more special.

The creators of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, otherwise known as Imagineers, set it on a planet never before seen in the Star Wars universe, giving everyone a chance to step into a story of their own.

This was a big risk — to create something “unknown” — but it’s paid off. To make it as authentic as possible, they travelled to Morocco and Turkey for inspiration, providing Black Spire Outpost’s authentically earthy, yet otherworldly environment.

The land is set during the current trilogy of the Star Wars films, but it also features elements representing many different eras of the Star Wars universe.

Upon entering the land, it’s almost as though you’ve walked onto a different planet, billions of light years away from our own.

We are now in Batuu at the Black Spire Outpost and officially part of the Star Wars story.

We’re encouraged to live our own adventure — whether this is aiding a smuggler, joining the Resistance or pledging loyalty to the First Order. But most importantly, we have the opportunity to take control of the most famous ship in the galaxy, the Millennium Falcon.

As a MASSIVE Star Wars fan, I haven’t been able to wipe the grin off my face.

I lose my breath upon seeing the Millennium Falcon. It’s the first time in history a full-size, 100 per cent complete Millennium Falcon has ever been built. It really is spectacular.

Suddenly, I hear a ship landing behind me and whiz around. No one else has heard it — they have unique sounds playing at different times in different locations, so the experience is different for everyone.

We line up to board the Falcon for the Smugglers Run, the main attraction within Galaxy’s Edge. We enter through the same starboard airlock used by Han Solo and Chewbacca in Star Wars film The Force Awakens before being assigned one of three critical roles — pilot, gunner or engineer.

Together, I work with the team to steer the ship, defend the falcon and prevent it from falling apart on a thrilling adventure to recover cargo for the Resistance. We’re able to recover a couple of pieces — but ultimately do too much damage to the ship. As a result, we owe money to the smuggler who ”hired” us for the mission.

We’re parched from the adventure and make our way to the Milk Stand to taste the infamous blue milk that Luke Skywalker consumed in A New Hope.

It’s VERY cool. But for a stronger punch, our next stop is Oga’s Cantina, the land’s main watering hole, serving as the heart of Black Spire Outpost. We’re entertained by DJ R-3X with some musical delights — but he also accidentally blows a power source and the Cantina loses all power for a few moments.

Also in Galaxy’s Edge is Savi’s Workshop where we’re given the opportunity to construct a lightsaber. It’s a rite of passage in the life of a Jedi and we can totally feel the presence of the Force! We’re able to customise our own legendary lightsaber (there are over 120,000 possible combinations).

And that’s not the only cool merchandise in this place — you can head on over to the Droid Depot to construct your own droid. Once you’ve built it, you can bring it to life at the activation station, and can be further personalised with personality-affiliation chips and colour panels.

Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities is where you can buy things like Kyber crystals, lightsaber accessories, Jedi or Sith Lord outfits, stuffed animal characters and other cool Star Wars-themed collectibles. Not going to lie, I did quite a bit of damage on the credit card — but do you blame me?

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge officially opens June 23 — but expect long queues and delays as like millions of others, people will be travelling to the Outer Rim of the galaxy to experience this incredible place.

If you do get the opportunity to visit, here are four things you MUST do when you arrive:

Fly the millennium falcon

It’s been dubbed as the “fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy”. You get strapped into the cockpit and take the controls on a mission to deliver smuggled goods.

Stroll through the Black Spire Outpost Marketplace

Black Spire Outpost Marketplace is home to vendors showcasing their wares from across the galaxy. The marketplace’s twisting pathway is just waiting to be explored, with something new to see at every turn.

Take a swig of blue milk

Ever since Luke Skywalker sat down in Star Wars film A New Hope and consumed the liquid, fans have had the burning question: What is blue milk and what does it taste like? Now, they’ll finally have an answer!

Be on the lookout for Kylo Ren, Rey, and other Star Wars characters

Guests may encounter heroes of the Resistance or agents of the First Order while in the park. And you may even see Chewbacca …
