Waterfront resort will set you back less than some Sydney homes
For the price of a large home in Sydney, potential buyers have the opportunity to snap up an 18-suite luxury lodge – right on the water.
If you’ve ever thought of owning your own waterfront resort, and have a spare few million up your sleeve, this waterfront property may be for you.
Targeting keen renovators on the hunt for a new challenge – this award-winning eco resort nestled in the Daintree Rainforest is on the market for what you’d pay for a beachside pad in Sydney or a harbour-view pad in the CBD.
Known as Bloomfield Lodge, which once won the award for Forbes Magazine’s ‘World’s Best Remote Hotel’ – has a listing price of $10 million.
Sitting in Weary Bay and surrounded by the natural wonders of Cape Tribulation, the Lodge needs a fair bit of work after being originally created by Mike Gooley, who invested $20 million in capital improvements to create this world-class eco resort, according to Domain.
The property, which sits on nearly three hectares with 656 metres of oceanfront, has a total of 18 guest suites each with incredible views across The Coral Sea and across to the mountain ranges.
Some of the guest amenities include a stunning swimming pool, nature trails, games room, fitness centre, day spa, gazebo spa and even a library full of regional historical memorabilia. There’s also an alfresco restaurant and bar for balmy nights under the stars.
Once a popular spot for both domestic and international travellers, the resort needs some work but according to listing agent Lynn Malone of Sotheby’s International Realty, it should come back to its full potential quite quickly.
“The Lodge has been in hibernation for almost six years with full-time caretakers. It is in excellent condition and will not take much to get it back into operational condition,” Ms Malone said, emphasising the property is a “a once-in-a-generation asset”.
According to the listing, the incredible Queensland property is accessible by sea to its private pier, via helicopter to a dedicated helipad or by air to an exclusive-use registered airport.
Property prices across the country have surged, with a recent report indicating that Sydney is the world’s second-hardest city to buy a home in and Melbourne ranks fifth-worst.
According to the Demographia International Housing Affordability survey, all five Australian mainland state capitals are among the 20 most expensive for housing in the world, with Adelaide 14th, Brisbane 17th and Perth 20th.
Four of the five cheapest cities to buy property in are in the US.
According to the survey, first home buyers in Australia need more than 10 years just to save a 20 per cent deposit to own a home, underlining worsening housing affordability.
