TripAdvisor releases 2015 list of world’s best beaches

TRIPADVISOR has named the best beaches in Australia, and the world but did they get it right? Here’s what made the top 10.

Really? Australia’s ‘best beaches’ named

TRAVEL site, TripAdvisor, has released its annual list of the world’s best beaches at its 2015 Travellers’ Choice Awards.

Taking out top spot for the second time running was Baia do Sancho in Brazil.

Sitting in a secluded bay on the island of Fernando de Noronha and part of a beautiful archipelago, the reviews on TripAdvisor were glowing.

“Too good to be true,” wrote one, “one of the most spectacular beaches on the planet”, “absolute perfection” and “no words needed,” said others.

Baia do Sancho sits on a hard to reach island that helps keep the hordes of tourists away.

When it came to Australia’s best beaches, Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays took out first place for the third year in a row. It was also named the top spot in the South Pacific and ranked ninth on the world beaches list.

“It is a tribute to the stunning natural beauty of the Whitsundays and our local tourism operators who allow visitors to experience the exceptional beauty and magic of Whitehaven Beach and the Whitsunday Islands whilst keeping it clean and preserving this natural wonder at the same time,” said Jeff Aquilina, Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) Executive Director.

“It is a great honour for our region that this beauty is recognised and appreciated by travellers from all over the world.”

Whitehaven Beach is Australia’s best beach according to its reviewers.

Other entries on the Aussie list included Surfers Paradise, leaving us wondering whether some of our other beauties had been missed. We think Little Beach in Western Australia, Queensland’s Lizard Island and Hyams Beach in NSW are all worthy of a mention.

Travellers’ Choice award-winning beaches were determined based on the quantity and quality of millions of traveller reviews and ratings for beaches on TripAdvisor gathered over a 12-month period.

Surely the untouched beauty of Little Beach at Albany in WA could have made the cut?

The exclusive Lizard Island has some of our most beautiful beaches but didn’t make the list.
