The puppy island of your dreams is real and your help is needed
As if a tropical island holiday wasn’t already perfect, this one has the adorable addition of puppies to play with.
What could be better than a tropical island holiday? A bunch of adorable rescue puppies desperate for your attention you can play with on the beach, that’s what.
And this dream location actually exists.
A dog rescue charity called Potcake Place is based on the Caribbean island of Providenciales in the Turks and Caicos Islands, an archipelago near the Bahamas.
The charity does amazing work taking in about 500 strays a year and is always looking for generous holiday-makers to come and play with the puppies in its care.
That’s because it’s important for the pups to get used to being around humans again before they’re found new homes — so playing with adorable dogs is literally charity work.
As if it doesn’t get any better than that, you’re allowed to take the puppies on a walk down to the beach, which also gets the dogs used to walking with leashes.
The program has made Providenciales popular with Instagrammers and dog-loving holiday-makers, but if that doesn’t bother you, there are no catches here.
“Some days, we will have people lining up over two hours before we open to be able to get the chance to take a puppy out for a couple of hours,” the rescue centre’s owner Jane Parker-Rauw told BuzzFeed.
“People are told to make sure that the puppy is in the shade and does not get too hot, pick up all puppy poop, only give the approved treats that we provide and see that the dog can’t tug at the leash.”
But there is something you need to remember.
“We want people to understand that this is not an excursion, and that we are doing it solely for the benefit of the puppy,” Ms Parker-Rauw said.
We can get on board with that.
So there you go, folks — that’s best holiday activity in the world. We’ll see you all in Providenciales.
