Fish and chips are a summer staple, but with every second cafe selling them, it’s hard to find the best version — until now.

It’s the Aussie lunch staple that sets the scene for summer.

But with every second cafe selling their own version of the famous fish and chips it’s tough to find which is the best bang for your buck.

Now, Seafood Industry Australia has revealed where to find the country’s best feed in each state and territory.

Receiving more than 300,000 votes across Australia, many locations made the cut — but only a select few could be crowned as the best places across the country to get gold class fish and chips.

In Queensland, Costa’s Seafood Cafe in Capalaba was voted as the top spot. Overall, Queenslanders cast the most votes which means this store in particular received the highest number of votes for 2021.

South into NSW, Something Seafood in Callala Bay on the south coast came in at number one, while in Victoria the Trident Fish Bar in Queenscliff was the most popular.

In Tasmania, Fraggles in Invermay was the most popular while in Canberra — The Fish Shack in Civic took the crown. As the first time to be included in the competition, the Fish Shack narrowly edged out the competition by just 10 votes to claim the top spot.

In South Australia, Fish out of Water in Hyde Park caused the biggest splash, while the top end saw Frying Nemo Fish and Chippery in Stuart Park take the crown.

Over in the West, Pinjarra Fish and Chips at Pinjarra received the most votes.

Seafood Industry Australia’s chief executive Veronica Papacosta said this year the survey received more votes than ever before.

“After a hard 18 months for Australia’s foodservice industry and our commercial fishers, we encourage everyone to take a night or two off from the kitchen, get together with your friends and family, and support your local takeaway store and your fishers, while you enjoy some Great Australian Fish & Chips,” Ms Papacosta said.

“The Great Australian Fish & Chip Awards showcase the very best fish & chip businesses around the country, while they celebrate our great Australian seafood, and the fishers who produce all of our favourite seafoods.

“The awards also highlight the importance of buying fresh, local, Australian seafood. It’s important to always ask for Aussie seafood; even why you’re buying fish & chips. Australian seafood is one of the most sustainable protein sources in the world and our fisheries

management is world class.”
