From today, Virgin Australia will drop a 12-hour sale blitz they’ve dubbed as their ‘comeback’ sale – given the airline recently went into voluntary administration before being snapped up by American private equity firm Bain Capital last week.
The airline said passengers will be able to buy flights from Sydney to Ballina from just $69, marking the return of its popular ‘Happy Hour Sale’ which drops each week.
Other highlights include a trip from Canberra to the Gold Coast from $129 and business class seats from the Gold Coast to Sydney from just $250.

Virgin Australia went into administration in April with close to $7 billion owed to creditors. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused havoc for the aviation industry – including Australia’s domestic market.
All eyes are now on local tourism to boost the economy, with state and territory borders slowly beginning to open.
“With travel restrictions starting to ease, we thought we would celebrate by bringing back Happy Hour and offering some great value fares along with our much-loved service,” Virgin Australia’s chief commercial officer John MacLeod said.
The sale comes after rival airline Qantas announced it would be launching two new routes in NSW. The first, which kicked off on July 1, will services Sydney to Byron Bay. The other, which will start from July 20, will be a direct flight from Sydney to Orange in Central NSW.
A spokesman for Virgin said that in addition to the weekly flight sales – which are planned to continue each Tuesday – travellers will be able to purchase fares with confidence as any applicable change fees for bookings made between today and September 30, 2020 will be waived, including unlimited changes to booking dates.
