There will be one-million sale fares across Virgin’s entire network with the cheapest one-way route from Ballina (Byron Bay) to Sydney at just $45 on Economy Lite. For the same route a business class ticket will cost $219.

For those keen to soak up the sun on the Gold Coast can do so from $65 or $299 on business. Tourists haven’t given up on the popular holiday spot despite erosion on the beaches caused by ex-tropical cyclone Alfred.

Eroded beaches are expected to make a full recovery over the next few weeks with Queensland Tourism Minister Andrew Powell urging travellers to continue to book holidays and not cancel plans.

Meanwhile, if Melbourne has been on your list, now is the time with fares from Sydney starting at $95 one-way on economy lite or $319 on business.

On the international front, travellers keen to explore New Zealand’s popular South Island, can nab return fares to Queenstown from Melbourne and Sydney from $425 and $455, respectively.

The sale comes at a time when more Aussie travellers are looking for a mid-year escape.

“We’re seeing a growing trend of Aussies taking holidays to rejuvenate and reset, as disconnecting from daily life becomes more challenging,” Virgin Australia executive, Libby Minogue said.

“This is reflected in the behaviours of our Velocity members, we have seen a 17 per cent increase in members using their Points to redeem flights in comparison to last year.”

She said the sale is the “perfect opportunity” for Aussies to book that mid-year escape to avoid burnout and prioritise their health and wellbeing.

According to Virgin, 62 per cent of Aussie travellers prioritising secluded holidays to reduce stress and anxiety, JOMO (the joy of missing out) is set to be 2025’s top travel trend.
